Celebrating Sociology Students’ Theses

The Department of Sociology congratulates Erin Farrell, ’24, on winning second place in the Alpha Kappa Delta Undergraduate Paper Competition for her paper entitled “Left Unsaid: Gendered Differences in Physical Mannerisms Within University Classrooms.” The AKD award committee recognized Erin “not only for having produced an outstanding piece of sociological writing, but also for the long and enduring track record of academic excellence on which this paper was built.” Erin also won the Georgetown Sociology Hall Thesis award for this paper in 2024. Both awards come with a cash prize.

Congratulations also to Jordan Keene for having her paper “Sobering Inequalities: Examining Judicial Paternalism and Protections in Criminal Courts,” accepted for publication in the Georgetown University Undergraduate Law Review!

We also want to congratulate students who had their thesis papers accepted at conferences this year. Jordan Keene presented her research at the Southeastern Undergraduate Sociology Symposium held this year at Morehouse College and Purnima Aggarwal presented her research at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Politics and Government Research Conference.

We are thrilled to see Georgetown Sociology students being recognized for the great work they’re doing and proud to be part of their journey!
