  • Prof. McCabe Shares New Report on D.C.’s Public Campaign Finance System

    Prof. Brian McCabe, with co-author Kenan Dogan (SFS ‘23), examines the Fair Elections program, a public campaign finance system that “aims to transform the way political campaigns are financed in Washington, DC, by providing qualified candidates with seed funding and matching small-dollar contributions from District residents with public funds at a 5:1 ratio.” They discuss how this program has changed the way local campaigns are financed in the District of Columbia and how it will impact elections moving forward.

  • Alumna Charlotte Matthews Awarded Second Place in Undergraduate Student Paper Competition

    2020 Sociology graduate Charlotte Matthews, co-winner of the 2020 Senior Thesis Award, received second place in Alpha Kappa Delta’s 2021 Undergraduate Student Paper Competition. AKD, the international sociology honor society, has over 140,000 members in 690 global chapters and partners with the American Sociological Association. Charlotte’s award-winning paper was titled “Fertility Day 2016: the Cultural Construction of Italian Fertility Marketing Campaigns.” Congratulations!

  • Profs. McCabe and Rosen Write Op-Ed for Washington Post About DC Eviction Report

    Brian McCabe and Eva Rosen’s report, “Eviction in Washington, DC: Racial and Geographic Disparities in Housing Instability”, was featured in several articles, including pieces published by the Washington City Paper and the Washington Post. Among their findings, they discussed the ease of filing evictions in the city and the small number of landlords who are responsible for a large proportion of eviction filings. Together, they wrote an Op-Ed in the Post detailing their results.
